Chado Tea Room

Chado Tea Room is my favorite place to go in Pasadena for tea and sandwiches. (You can also order soup, salads, cakes, scones, and strawberries with clotted cream.) It’s a place to sit down with a friend or a book for a light meal or dessert, but it’s also a place to buy tea by the ounce. There’s a wide selection; the back wall is lined with shelves of big tea tins, and they will brew and serve any of the teas in the store at your table, which seems to me like a great way to try a new tea.

Ooooh, I love this idea. How civilized!
this is one of my favorite places to go with you in Pasadena
Look at all of that tea!
Love the tea-in-action shots! This reminds me of a place I used to go in college called Tealuxe. I remember this tea that tasted of strawberry and lemons– Lady Londonderry? It was purported as Princess Di’s favorite. What are the must-try flavors you’ve had so far at Chado?
When I’m sitting down for tea, I like Boston Tea Party black tea with milk in it. When I buy tea, I tend to buy the same teas over and over: Genmaicha, Sencha, Dragonwell, amber oolong, earl gray with blueflower, earl gray with lavendar, and lapsang suchong. How about you? What are your favorite teas?
Lady Londonderry (I had a friend mule some back recently), Celestial Seaonings Sleepytime, Williamson English Breakfast, roiboos, and Swedish berries.
Wow! I love all the tea selections – though at the same time, I think I might be overwhelmed at all the choices. Very cool, though.
Yes I miss it. They also have a smaller location on Third St, over by Beverly Center, though the Pasadena location has more tea.
