Saw one (fuzzy, rust and black) on my back patio last night here in Shawnee, KS. Stepped on it 3 or 4 times (I have an ancient, deaf and nearly blind dog that does his business near there) and left it squirming. I went out the next afternoon and it was still squirming around. I probably won't step on the next one I see as we have a yellow jacket problem, too.

My son and I saw one in the drive way yesterday. We watched it for a few minutes. She was moving very fast and just wanted to hide from us. She crawled off into our rock wall. We live in Omaha, NE. It seems like they are founds all over the U.S. but I have never seen anything like this before. Creepy, but very interesting. Thanks for all the info.

Wasp. Soliary species. Doesn't live with others. Supposedly very painful sting. First time I saw one, I poked it with a stick, kind of held it in place. It made the strangest high-pitched squeal, like it was screaming/hissing at me. I squashed it for being a member of the wasp family. Stupid wasps.

I saw this bug this morning - we let him go his merry way. Saw one a few days ago and wonder if they were attracted here because of all the tree damage in Southern Illinois this spring where holes were left behind. Our tree frog left our yard about 3 weeks ago - he had his home in a hallowed out mimosa tree - I hope he wasn't chased away by this wasp.

I saw this little bugger this morning here in Southern Illinois. Saw one a few days ago in the back yard - I would be interested in knowing who his enemies are. I also wonder if they were attracted here because of all the tree damage this past spring in this area and large holes left from uprooted trees. We left the little guy go his merry way. Our tree frog left our yard about 3 weeks ago. He had his home in a hallowed out mimosa tree - I hope he wasn't chased away by this wasp.

We saw one of these girls in southern Illinois. At hog rock campgrounds during the gathering of juggalos. I told my bro to scope it out and see if it had a stinger. I thought he would wrangle it with a stick or something, to see if a stinger would come out. He stomped it like four or five times and the back half was still alive with a stinger worse than any bee or hornet I've come across (1/4 inch easy). But it actually looked pretty chill and I had wished I checked it out and simply moved it away from us instead of him offing it.

Yes its a wasp. I found one walking along in my front yard and went straight to the computer. Even if it turned out to be an ant I am sure something that big would bite. Female wasp no wings-I believe there may be an underground nest in my front yard. EEEEEEKKKK!!!!
